Off-Topic: Comic Book Reviews For 1-7-2015

Marvel's HULK #10
I have been watching the old INCREDIBLE HULK television show, and this has inspired me to revisit my small but not insignificant collection of HULK comics, and so I also picked up the most recent issue of the most recent HULK volume. Poor Bruce Banner has undergone some gut wrenching transformations over the last few years, and this has made the books a little hard to keep up with. But I luckily picked up an issue where the newest Hulk faces down Thunderbolt Ross, The Red Hulk. It was mostly an extended and very entertaining fight scene. It seems Marvel is going to be thinning out the number of Hulks in its universe, and that is good, though I hope they keep Ross and Jennifer Walters, the Green She-Hulk. This was a well paced action-packed book, that had some great surprises and strong dialogue. I am so glad I picked this one up, though in the past, Hulk storylines don't stay strong for long.

DC's GREEN LANTERN #38
In this issue, Hal deals with some of the aftermath of the GODHEAD crossover storyline. He has been forced to return home for some 'shore leave', and is followed there by his closest friends. This book doesn't have much action, but it does have something this book has sorely lacked for a long time: character development. I absolutely loved getting down to earth with Hal, and I hope that is the direction this book will be taking. Tight, earth-bound storylines would be good for his character, at least for a little while. Overall, a very good book.

DC's EARTH 2 #30
The DC universes all have these forces that are active within them, which embody some elemental natural power. They choose avatars, and those avatars become heroes or villains. For instance, in the main DC universe, the Green has chosen and empowered Swamp Thing, while the Red has chosen and empowered Animal Man. These forces represent the elemental forces of plant and animnal life, respectively. In this issue of Earth 2 we learn about the Earth 2 Universe's elementals, and their avatars. This led to some interesting short stories, and I liked the book overall. If nothing else, it gave us a reprieve from the Apocalypse storyline. Earth 2 has really been grating recently. I don't know how much longer I'll be collecting it, since it doesn't delve much into the characters I love any more. But this was a good issue, and I liked it.

Marvel's AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #12
I had to step away from the SPIDER-VERSE crossover for a few issues, because it was just getting too expensive. But I've stepped back in and I got back into the groove of it pretty effectively. Parts of the story were strong here and parts were not so strong, but the dialogue and some of the characters were entertaining throughout. I was happy with this book, and plan to collect the rest of the crossover until it finishes up.

Marvel's SPIDER-MAN 2099 #7
This was another SPIDER-VERSE book, and it was really, really good. I looooved the inclusion of the Punisher 2099, and the developing relationship between Lady Spider and Miguel (Spider-Man 2099). The dialogue had some awesome content, and though the story didn't move much, we got some much-needed character development in the midst of the Maelstrom that is SPIDER-VERSE.
