Off- Topic: Comic Book Reviews 12-10-2014

Archie Comics' AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE #7
I cannot tell you how long I've been waiting for this comic book. It feels like a year since we got the last issue, and it was well worth the wait. Archie and the gang are fleeing the zombie apocalypse as each member reflects on important events from their past lives. We learn more about the particular Archieverse we find ourselves in, and what the world looked like before the advent of the undead. The flashbacks did throw off the pacing some, but the truly frightening atmosphere is retained and the dialogue is really dynamite. All in all, this was a great book.

Marvel's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Annual #1
This issue focuses primarily on Captain Marvel, and the horrors of the intergalactic warfare that the Guardians so often find themselves in the middle of. Our heroes find a space version of SHIELD in an ongoing battle against the remnants of the Skrull Empire. There were some genuinely funny moments, and the dialogue was solid. The storyline certainly took some turns I didn't expect, but the pacing was off. The story just didn't flow well.

DC's GREEN LANTERN CORPS #37
GODHEAD continues as Malhedron finally cannot abide the changes in Highfather any longer, and turns against his fellow New Gods. This leads to a team-up between him and John Stewart, who has decided that the war with the New Gods needs to turn into a sort of Lantern insurgency. I liked the issue, as some of the deeper thematic elements are explored yet again, and from some interesting perspectives.
