What Meditation Can (And Cannot) Do

Meditation cannot save you. YOU cannot save yourself by your own power. The Christian meditator mustbe careful lest he start to talk as if meditation is salvific. It is not. Meditation does not save, it is a tool that helps the Christian practitioner get the most out of his or her salvation. It helps maximize the benefit. It cannot justify, but it can help with sanctification. Meditation is different indeed for the Christian, even if the actual behavior is the same. No practice is metaphysically neutral. Meditation means something. But it is not metaphysically fixed either. Meditation need not lead to the death of the self, but can be a path to discovering the true self.
