A Lesson From Unamuno's Book

THE AGONY OF CHRISTIANITY "accuses" Christianity of being essentially mystical. It also points out that the deeper one gets in one's relationship with God, the more isolated one is inclined to be. This is my experience as well. I FEEL more connected than ever. But an honest evaluation of my situation reveals a shrinking circle of people with whom I can freely and openly connect to. Every day my contemplative practices bear more experiential fruit. But just talking about the details of an experience tends to push people away. I see more than ever, but Im more silent every day. Such is the life of the mystic. And if Unamuno is right, this is also the inevitable result of getting deeper into the faith.
