Comparing Quotes

 Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said:
“Who is this that obscures my plans
    with words without knowledge?
Brace yourself like a man;
    I will question you,
    and you shall answer me.
“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?
    Tell me, if you understand.
Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!
    Who stretched a measuring line across it?
On what were its footings set,
    or who laid its cornerstone—
while the morning stars sang together
    and all the angels shouted for joy?
“Who shut up the sea behind doors
    when it burst forth from the womb,
when I made the clouds its garment
    and wrapped it in thick darkness,
10 when I fixed limits for it
    and set its doors and bars in place,
11 when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther;
    here is where your proud waves halt’?- Job 38:1-11

It occurred to me during a class yesterday that this is roughly comparable to this haunting and powerful exchange from the movie DUNE:

"There is a place terrifying to us... to women.  It is said a man will come...the Kwisatz Haderach...he will go where we cannot"-  the Reverend Mother Gaius Moheme (talking to Paul Atredes about the powers and limits of the Bene Geserit Order)

After Paul has become the Kwisatz Haderach he says to the Reverend Mother he says,
"Don't try your powers on me.  Try looking into that place where you dare not look. You'll find me there staring back at you!!"

Everyone one of us has our own 'deep' our own dark place where we dare not look or go. If we went there, we would find God staring back at us. There is not corner of existence where God's presence does not reach, no depths He has not braved, and no place of death or suffering where we are alone.
