LARPing

LARP is a lot like life. You play a role to discover who you really are. You find something profoundly true through the most transparent of fiction. The lines between these two are blurry, yet they exist. There is magic all around us, and imagination is the supreme gift of God. Yet we are so easily led astray by it. Anyone gifted with a deep imagination can see both the benefits and the pitfalls. If I refuse to give myself over to the images that arise from the depths, at least to some degree, its power is blunted and the possibility of great truth is lost to me. Yet what appears to be true on the imaginative level may not be, and yet it will have the force of certainty behind it. It is easy to be led astray in this way. Good religion both fosters imagination and warns us of its dangers. You see this throughout the scriptures. Mystics are held up as recipients of the will of God. Yet so many are accused of being nothing more than self-deluded assholes. Religion doesn't seem to have changed much in that sense, over the years.
