The Enemy

Life is a war. The fundamentalists are right about this, the mainline Protestants are screwed because they have forgotten it. The fundamentalist mistake is choosing the wrong battlefields, picking the wrong enemies, and denying themselves many fine weapons. Christians do not fight the particular instantiations of evil, they fight evil itself. They don't fight the war on the enemy's territory: the world, but on their own turf: within their own hearts and the hearts of their brothers.

Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
