Off-Topic: Comic Book Reviews For 12-3-2014

DC's SINESTRO #7
The crossover with the NEW GODS continues as Sinestro uses manipulation and scheming to achieve his goals, only to find himself out-schemed by those we would assume to be trustworthy. The  GODHEAD storytline is very solid, and this issue reveals why. The character development of Sinestro is fascinating, as we explore his relationship with his daughter, the other yellow lanterns, and the other lantern corps within the context of the NEW GOD threat, which is a different type of animal than anything these characters have dealt with before. This book worked on every level. I liked it.

DC's GREEN LANTERN #37
Hal Jordan, desperate to battle the NEW GOD threat, teams up with one of his most feared, deadly and evil enemies and one of the most off-putting characters in the DC universe, the Black Lantern. We learn just how powerful this force is when he actually fends off a New God attack. There is some depth in this issue, as issues of life and death are explored on an abstract level, and some comic relief, as the Black Lantern is a bit cartoonish. Another great issue of the GODHEAD crossover.

Marvel's THANOS VS HULK #1
Pip The Troll, one of my favorite all-time characters, returns to the Marvel Universe, as Jim Starlin explores his current THANOS incarnation in more detail. Pip has kidnapped the Incredible Hulk to use as bargaining chip with Annihilus and Thanos is drawn into the machinations as he tries to prevent the Negative Zone's dictator from gaining even more power. From an exploration of the Hulk's own psyche, to plenty of Pip comic relief, I liked this book and can't wait to see where it goes.
