Trash Art

Mary McCleary's trash art is very similar to how I think scripture works. Scripture is more like collage than photograph. And the individual parts are far less important than the overall. No doubt there are parts of scripture that reflect the beauty and truth of the overall, but there are other parts that reflect it not at all. It is easy to focus on one part and find it ugly and evil. Parts of scripture are ugly and evil. But that would be like focusing on part of McCleary's art and calling it trash. It is trash, taken by itself. Step back and look at the overall, and you see truth.
